End of month Internet update

Well unlike the 2000's  at least my internet isn't dial up and isn't dropping in and out like a round of guests at CatMas although computing is less desk top with separate keyboard, mouse, display and base unit  and more Chromebook which is more me outside of more speciality uses.

More turn on, instant boot up and on with the job.

It's much faster even over Wifi with download speeds of just a smidgen under 52mbps depending on how good your devices wifi set up is and rather less flaky although not using the providers DNS server (BT/EE) and switching to Googles works better which was something I had to do to the new machine as with CatMas rush I forgot that and finding some sites weren't loading quite right.

Don't however try phoning as unless you ring my cellphone as while I can ring you, should I fail and you try ringing back you won't get through as all the protocol stuff since this switchover for the phone hasn't been completed in sixteen days and all you get is messages on the cellphone to say there's still more work to be finalized.

Well, I ain't daft, I already know that.

Thus for when I go away I have enter a number for a unofficial phone (cough cough) that plugs via a socket to modem of its own as I can't be assured this will be fixed in time.

Teh Internet edition

Things will be a bit different this week for a variety of reasons one being actually I'm not well being on hot drinks, throat pastels and the like as I have a bit of soar throat and cold.
The other is while all this is going on my Broadband is being upgrade to "Superfast Fibre" by my provider for free which should give me a speed of on average 67mbps which is just over two-thirds as fast as my current speed.
Part of that is done electronically, throwing a switch to send my internet via the service but to fully use it I need to change my modem and router combination for a new all in one faster hub which even if I'd been well would of been taxing so I'm kind of dependent on someone doing it when it suits them.
That means I may not around this weekend gone to write this blog and other things like Storytime at FA so I'll have to occupy myself with comic and music until I'm back up ready to change the Wifi name and password across laptop and chromebook.

RIP Grumpy Cat

Internet life is kind of strange with its protocols and manias such as "Rick Rolling" and the intense use of Memes and emoticons that some of us had to get used to in those earlier days before every dog and child had their SmartPhone aka a pocket sized computer that also just makes phone calls.
One famous star from the earlier days of social media where Meme creation was in its infancy was Grumpy Cat aka Tardar Sauce who seemed to have permanent frown who became viral as that word was becoming so too as more and more people got on to the likes of I haz cheezburger and started making Meme's featuring her priceless expression.
To say they were a thing in 2012-13 is an understatement.
The following was on Instagram on Friday.
There are hundreds of Grumpy Cat memes around some pretty SFW, others maybe not but I thought this one would a good choice to remember her by here on a blog that looks at regression and past childhoods
Many of us can relate to this setting and that thought.
Today an increasing number of schools and colleges are bring in pets to help calm children and students as wll as the opportunity to give and receive unconditional love and affection.
What if yours was like that?

2012-2019 R.I.P. Grumpy Cat.

Friday media round up

There's a few things I'd like to talk about before my next entry sometime next week and I think the first thing is I enjoy light hearted social interaction, it may be a laugh and a joke on a Status update, a journal or say in a chat room.
This week I've been enjoying writing and taking turns in a role play story exploring an imaginary world we're based on  with friends having an adventure we make up as we go along letting our inner child talk and play in much the way in real life as children we would of done which is more my idea of fun than anything more grown up and what this age regression thing is about in all honesty.
I sometimes like to write short stories or extracts  of a fictional regressed persons life or a few others sharing time together pretty much for the same reason, exploring what  it means, finding it it very calming.
I saw something earlier this week on Tumblr that caught my attention that can be paraphrased as why do you make a point of looking at another possibly an ex communities site when it irritates you and there is nothing you can do about it?
It's a fair question given how things with one community got with me. You may think maybe they'll change almost miraculously with a message saying everything is back to where it  was before or what it was that irritated you but in reality that isn't going to  happen.
I'm stopping obsessing over that communities  home page as it just isn't healthy for me and instead focus on going forward with the community I'm a part of instead, a community that has given me a second chance and hope when I so badly needed some.
I have what I need at hand, I just need to engage more with it  and learn to leave the past behind.

Thursday ramblings

Tomorrow I'll be in town just to get a few things in ready for Christmas as that will be the focus of my activities so the likes of FA, tumblr and even old school blogging will begin to drop off as in truth they are only possible due to spare time and I have less of it this time of year.
I see this blogs posts  dropping to one a week and I may take a break completely from one Tumblr and cut back on the other which to an extent I have been doing this week as apart from the time it takes, inter community bickering and accusations just takes its toll on me emotionally as paradoxically it does judging from those who do it too.
The time is better spent on putting cards  and presents in groups  to take out with me visiting friends and family lifting spirits and spreading goodwill.
Incidentally, thank yoo Jennifer for de card that arrived Tuesday.

Sanriotown.com R.I.P?

It was with some shock to find on Friday last an activity that had been a part of my internet life for a long time just wasn't available outside of the other business talked about elsewhere and still isn't available as I type this.
For almost as long as this blog has been going, Sanriotown.com was the first port of call not just for The Game but also things such as the busy forum where by design discussions were never 18+ which suited me as most adult conversations go over my head and don't really fit in my life, offered wallpaper and screen-savers.
They also has something I just adored, a oh so kawaii email with customization of the domains for whatever sanriotown character you liked  which for me meant I had a me @hellokitty.com email address that linked directly to things such as ecards you could people at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas plus  cute stamps that you could apply to your emails too just as if they were actually letters sent between friends.
On Friday I couldn't access the email account and found it was due to the Security Certificate being out of date but a week on it hasn't been changed. Many people had written on the forum about this, had even tried to email from other accounts the sites Service people only to get a auto responder and even the official twitter wasn't being replied to.
This morning in a email I accessed minutes ago they're saying it's due to a combination of system and server upgrades plus other other technical issues adding they don't have a estimated time for the work to be complete.
Looking around the signing up button was missing and people had been complaining you couldn't download the Game  from the site even but only from a independent download site that to me suggested this obviously was the last version developed in 2012.
I also noticed the number of the other features had been really trimmed back or missing.
All this was on top of last Decembers much publicized hacking of the sites database which impacted all of us.
The overall impression is that sanriotown.com and Hello Kitty Online is for all intents and purposes dead joining other sites we used such as experience project, friends reunited, beststuff and the GeoCities blogging platform in the internet graveyard.

Locked out!

Today's not as planned as the FA business has just gotten more complicated  as resulting from a cyber attack that is alleged to have compromised the security of everyones account  had we not had a lengthy outage it has been decide to have everyone go through a password resetting tool to change it.
Normally this is little more than just changing your password but FA wants you to a tool that is meant to go to the email you are registered at but a fair number of people are finding the request isn't arriving at their inbox. I've tried three times and it hasn't come through even though I have my original activation email there and can't recall changing the email details but it isn't working so I'll have to contact a human if they feel like helping out as I have a lot stuff there.
On the other hand I did study this weekend looking at capacity and volume for rectangles and cubes and doing a practice paper for English on Soccer that I got 85% on.

Random Monday round up

Phew that's the weekend  gone not that after a day or or of so-so weather the sun hasn't gone as while I'm typing this it is actually shining as I sip my tea.
Did I tell anybody I have this Katie Kitty Jellybean plushie comforter?
I think she's awful cute in that dress and easy to keep by me when I need to hug something badly and is easy to take with me.
I thing I've learnt lately is that need is very real in me.

I spent part of the day putting some music, the ahem *lost* music from the dead laptop, on to a card for my music player and part of that involved altering the order of the songs as my US cd of one title  goes in the wrong order to the UK original album by altering the data a player uses to know what tracks play next. Perhaps I should of been employed as a studio engineer?

One of thoughts on my mind has been why it is sometimes someone you just get to know a bit about just completely disappears from a site leaving you feeling half a conversation is missing and critically all your interactions with them just gone completely without any real warning.
I don't feel comfortable at all with the idea of copying peoples posts and private messages so it's rare I do and I like to get peoples permission first for anything other than my own but it just feels so awkward staring where they were and not seeing them anymore.  Like they never existed particularly when the person concerned made a big impression on me.

Restoration post

Hi! We're back by the power of the Pale Moon after last weeks problem with the 'toplap' and trying to make the treacle laden old desktop actually do something that makes actually using an manual typewriter seem almost liberationly quick which was one of the first useful 'toys' I ever had.
While the original toplap is waiting repair or cannibalization for the spare parts, I has a new to me toplap that is smaller than that and has a more typewriter feeling keyboard which for those of us taught to type on a proper typewriter is very much appreciated.
Fortunately much of my music was backed up in many ways, vendor clouds, usb sticks and even on the cards of the music player  used to play from without having to fire up the computer although this leaves a few albums potentially missing that probably underscore the need to back up by whatever means the things that matter on your computer.
Equally having a back up of your bookmarks with those sometimes hard to recall web addresses helps in getting re-established as does having somewhere your passwords for sites you joined and contribute to.
While I didn't have a really update list the one from de original Treacle machine was at least serviceable and having been exported and the imported to Pale Moon using a usb stick on here only required two additions and one change to be of use in getting back online.
Thanks everybody for being understanding  during this period.
